This project involves the introduction of improved beekeeping technologies across 83 woredas in Ethiopia, with particular focus on Amhara and Tigray regions. The project aims to address low productivity and quality in Ethiopia's honey sector, and is expected to generate economic and social benefits by increasing yields, improving honey quality, and creating income opportunities for rural households through modern beekeeping practices. As part of USAID/Ethiopia's Agricultural Growth Program-Agribusiness And Market Development (AGP-AMDE) under Feed the Future, a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis was conducted in line with international good practices, assessing three intervention models: (A) provision of 3 modern hives; (B) hives with tools; and (C) comprehensive packages including training. The analysis evaluated financial viability, economic efficiency, and market impacts through detailed production forecasts, cost assessments, domestic/export demand projections, and adoption risk scenarios, ensuring robust decision-making support for USAID/Ethiopia and implementing partners.
