This USAID/Ethiopia GRAD project analyzed smallholder livestock fattening interventions across 16 woredas in Ethiopia. It aimed to boost household incomes and address food insecurity for 50,000 families by improving livestock value chains. The cost-benefit analysis confirmed strong financial returns and suitability for vulnerable households.

This project involves the implementation of livestock productivity interventions across 16 woredas in Ethiopia. The project aims to address chronic food insecurity among Productive Safety Net Program beneficiaries, and is expected to generate economic and social benefits by increasing household incomes and graduating 50,000 families from safety net support through improved livestock value chains.  As part of USAID/Ethiopia's GRAD project, a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis was conducted to evaluate the smallholder livestock fattening intervention, assessing the financial, economic efficiency of the value chain, and distributional impacts on households. The USAID findings demonstrate the intervention's strong financial returns and suitability for vulnerable households through its low-input requirements and income-generating potential.
