This project involves the enhancement of sesame production and marketing systems in Ethiopia's key growing regions. The project aims to increase Ethiopia's global sesame market share and improve smallholder farmer incomes, and is expected to generate economic benefits by strengthening productivity through improved seeds, agronomic practices, and value-chain institutions. The project's focus on research capacity, improved inputs, and market linkages aligns with broader agricultural development goals, showing significant returns on investment in Ethiopia's high-potential sesame sector. As part of USAID's Agricultural Marketing Development (AMDe) project, a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis was conducted in line with international good practices, assessing the project's financial viability, economic efficiency, and market impacts. The analysis included detailed production forecasts, cost estimates for seed multiplication and farmer training, export market assessments, and risk-adjusted scenarios for cooperative development, ensuring robust decision-making support for USAID/Ethiopia and Ethiopia's Ministry of Agriculture.
